ATHENS, THE ACROPOLIS & ANCIENT AGORA

What will I see?

“The epicenter of Ancient Athens”

Travel through time via our fascinating exploration of the Ancient City of Athens, the home of philosophy and the birthplace of Democracy.

Our captivating exploration of the ancient city begins at the foot of the glorious rock, where upon ascending the ancient stone and marble stairs, the sight of the gate (or Propylaia) will leave you in awe and wonder at its spectacle but it will just be a teaser to the magnificent site of all that is within the Acropolis. Upon passing the gate, the imposing fascia holding up the mighty columns of the Parthenon Temple will leave you astonished at how against all odds the great Temple still stands proud today! Also within the Acropolis is the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Erechteheion.

Upon descending from the Acropolis, is the archaeological site of the ancient Agora – the bustling heart of classical Athens. The Agora was a place to trade, to socialize, to plan the future of the city, to serve justice, and to plan wars when need be. The museum is housed in the Stoa of Attalos, and its exhibits are connected with the Athenian democracy. The collection of the museum includes clay, bronze and glass objects, sculptures, coins and inscriptions from the 7th to the 5th century BC, as well as pottery of the Byzantine period and the Turkish occupation.

After having visited the ancient Agora we will continue our historical journey with a panoramic tour of Athens where you will have the opportunity to drive by many of the cities sites and monuments including the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, and the Royal Palace. At Syntagma Square you will see the soldiers of the Evzones stand guard in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where there is the inscription “and one bed is carried empty, made for the unknown ones.” Lastly there is the Panathenaic Stadium, the Olympic Stadium of 1896 that saw the rebirth of the Ancient games into modernity that we know today.
